The Art of Effective Persuasion & Motivation

OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will have an understanding of four key elements of successful persuasion. They will have had the opportunity to compare models of forced solutions versus arriving at consensus through effective sharing and discussion of relevant facts. Participants will be given the opportunity to experiment with these key elements of effective persuasion as they attempt to achieve "buy-in" from others at the individual and group level. They will learn how to present a message in a way that leads others to support it, without force, trickery or negotiation.

DURATION: Half-day, full day or extended multiple-day workshops

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand one's own beliefs and prejudices about persuasion.
  • Identify individual styles of persuasion.
  • Implement a shift from directive to facilitative methods.
  • Employ the use of needs elicitation, listening, questioning, presentation skills and compromise.
  • Arrive at consensus, reaching decisions through effective sharing and discussion of facts.
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be highly participatory and interactive. Certain key concepts, which will be used through the workshop experience, will be presented and discussed initially. Using a "practice and feedback" loop approach, participants will gain an understanding of the processes of effective communication, and how these components can be modified for maximum results.
