OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will have an understanding of the trends and forces influencing the modern-day workplace and the resultant management styles evolving from this environment. Participants will examine their existing notions of effective leadership and explore the consistent characteristics of best of class leaders in organizational case studies. Traditional "command style" strategies will be contrasted to the new era techniques of persuasion management and leadership.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Understand leadership styles and basis for change in the modern day workplace.
- Identify one's own beliefs about leadership, being influenced and influencing others.
- Describe and explore the characteristics of best performing leaders.
- Identify and contrast command style versus constructive persuasion management.
- Explore the resulting behavior outcomes when using each style of influence.
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be participatory and interactive. In addition to formal presentation of basic concepts, participants will frequently work in small groups. They will be given group assignments whereby they will help each other realize the practical application of the workshop material. Participants will be asked to engage in group activities which are intended to heighten awareness of individual behavioral processes.
