OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will have an understanding and experience of "framing an idea" , the process of describing a concept or proposal for maximum audience impact. Building on the Language and Communication component, participants will attempt to establish a shared common ground for understanding and interpreting issues. In an effort to become influential persuaders, they will explore and implement the Framing Triad of shared beliefs/values, shared language and shared goals and expectations.

DURATION: Half-day, full day or extended multiple-day workshops

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand one's own beliefs and strategies for learning and understanding
  • Learn to frame issues (introducing elements of an issue, concept or strategy)
  • Tailor one's message to learning styles of the listener(s)
  • Appeal to group and organizational shared values and beliefs
  • Make use of shared group and organizational language
  • Appeal to group and organizational shared expectations and outcomes
  • Integrate changes and seed for future learning transfer in others
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be highly participatory and interactive. Certain key concepts, which will be used through the workshop experience, will be presented and discussed initially. Using a "practice and feedback" loop approach, participants will gain an understanding of the processes of effective communication, and how these components can be modified for maximum results.
