OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will examine the key patterns of effective master persuaders. They will have experienced the development of evidence and the deliberate positioning of evidence to support an idea frame. This workshop is designed to provide the experience of evaluating and selecting information (thinking) and ordering or sequencing this information (logic) in an effort to persuade effectively. A discussion of presentation styles will include the selection of clear evidence, the most compelling sequencing of evidence, the issue of addressing counter-arguments and the use of tactical simplicity to enhance comprehension and create maximum impact. The development of an awareness of the listener's profile and decision-making type will allow workshop participants to tailor their message specifically, using simple logic and themes, the use of analogies and anecdotal story-telling.
DURATION: Half-day, full day or extended multiple-day workshops
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Understand one's own beliefs and strategies in developing convincing evidence.
- Develop effective positions and evidence to support an idea frame (thinking & logic).
- Select evidence that makes an argument seem plausible and worthwhile.
- Identify our listener profile and decision-making styles using the Meyers-Briggs Type.
- Get listeners to identify/share our own convictions/positions.
- Get listeners to remember our key points.
- Ensure maximum reach and comprehension.
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be highly participatory and interactive. Certain key concepts, which will be used through the workshop experience, will be presented and discussed initially. Using a "practice and feedback" loop approach, participants will gain an understanding of the processes of effective communication, and how these components can be modified for maximum results.
