Connecting Emotionally-The Convincer Stategy

OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will have a clear understanding of the importance of the emotional component contributing to the authenticity of one's communication. Absent emotional connection, perceptions of doubt, uncertainty or manipulations are likely to arise on the part of the listener(s). The uses of positive emotion as well as negative fear tactics are explored. In making use of emotional appeal, workshop participants will experience interactive dialogue and activities assessing their readiness to convince, matching emotions with others and exploring emotion-generating issues and material. Checking and anticipating emotional implications and possible problems resulting from the communication are examined as part of these program activities.

DURATION: Half-day, full day or extended multiple-day workshops

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand one's own beliefs and strategies in becoming convinced
  • Assess and identify major emotional responses in your team/group/audience
  • Identify experiences you could convey which have emotional appeal to colleagues
  • Understand core emotional reactions of colleagues
  • Deal with skepticism
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be highly participatory and interactive. Certain key concepts, which will be used through the workshop experience, will be presented and discussed initially. Using a "practice and feedback" loop approach, participants will gain an understanding of the processes of effective communication, and how these components can be modified for maximum results.
