Building Credibility

OVERVIEW: At the conclusion of this program component, participants will have had the opportunity to explore essential factors which comprise credibility, an essential ingredient necessary for effective persuasion. Two dimensions of credibility, expertise credibility and relationship credibility, will be examined. Key elements which influence perceptions of integrity and expertise will be described and discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate components of credibility and identify individuals who ideally represent those characteristics as models. Examining strengths and weaknesses of workshop participants will be balanced by practice sessions and individual coaching in building and enhancing both dimensions of personal credibility. The implementation of actions congruent with message will be used as a powerful credibility accelerator.

DURATION: Half-day, full day or extended multiple-day workshops

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand one's own beliefs and ethics about evaluating the credibility of others.
  • Recognize the dimensions of both expertise and relationship credibility in others.
  • Identify personal strengths and weaknesses affecting one's ability to project credibility.
  • Enhance one's strengths and build upon weaknesses to maximize perceived credibility.
  • Recognize the use of actions to strengthen persuasion and perceived credibility.
FORMAT: This workshop is designed to be highly participatory and interactive. Certain key concepts, which will be used through the workshop experience, will be presented and discussed initially. Using a "practice and feedback" loop approach, participants will gain an understanding of the processes of effective communication, and how these components can be modified for maximum results.
